ILWU and PMA, Soon to Reach Contract Deal?

The International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) and the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) continue to negotiate a new contract regarding bargaining agreements covering all major West Coast ports. According to a press release received by Noatum, local terminal employers “remain hopeful of reaching a deal soon”. The negotiations resumed two weeks ago after PMA and the ILWU agreed to temporarily set aside the controversial jurisdictional concerns involving Terminal 5 in Seattle. At this time, both sides have agreed to not discuss any information about ongoing negotiations with the media as the bargaining continues.

Currently, the two sides have reached a tentative deal on some key issues, including health benefits, and have announced they are committed to resolving the remaining issues. Given that TPM 2023 is just days away, many are hopeful that a solution will be achieved soon as many key stakeholders are confirmed to be attending. With this news, Noatum is excitedly anticipating the end to the almost yearlong negotiation process and proud to bring you this positive news in the current logistics industry climate.
