RAIL UNION EXTENDS COOLING-OFF PERIOD

Positive news was announced late last week as the major rail unions that voted against the proposed contract agreed to extend their potential strike date from November 19th to December 4th.  Last month, two rail unions, The Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen (BRS) and The Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Division (BMWED), announced the rejection of the Biden administrations proposed contract. BMWED represents around 26,000 workers and 56% of those members voted against the passing of the tentative agreements. The BRS and BMWED are currently demanding more paid sick days and days for doctor visits. An agreement is yet to be reached but both unions agreed to delay a strike to allow time to formulate an acceptable proposal.
