Earlier this week, the city of Chicago announced its intent to revoke the licenses of contractors that process cargo at O’Hare International Airport (“ORD”) if cargo-handling companies did not open to union organizers. If the revocations occur, two-thirds of cargo traffic will be stumped, effectively crippling the supply chain. The shutdown is currently set for January 20, 2023.
This situation is a direct result of the new guidelines imposed on ORD’s airport service providers in 2022. The imposed agreement forced service providers to sign labor peace agreements within a delegated 60-day period of a union’s request. At this time, limited information is available as this is a evolving situation. Noatum will continue to monitor the situation and provide swift and accurate updates.
