DEVASTATING EARTHQUAKES HIT TURKEY

Yesterday morning, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit Kahramanmaraş, Turkey. In the early afternoon it was followed by another devastatingly large quake with a magnitude of 7.7. Operations at the Port of Iskenderun have come to a halt, as the port has experienced significant damage. The port has   announced that all cancellations, changes in destination, and revisions will be free during the month of February.

According to the country’s disaster management agency, at least 3,400 people were killed across 10 provinces of Turkey, with another 20,000 injured. These numbers are still expected to rise as rescuers search through mountains of rubble and debris in fridged weather.

These earthquakes have also affected the north of Syria, where the number of deaths has risen to more than 1,700 people.

At this time, it is uncertain as to how significant of an impact this tragedy will be on supply chains. Noatum will release updates as more information is received, our hearts and minds are with Turkey, and we are ready to support land recovery in any way we can. We are deeply saddened by this tragic event.
