Long Beach’s largest terminal is shut down, following a string of other port disruptions, as labor talks stall. With over 22,000 dockworkers operating without a contract, since last July, tensions are high, and talks are not going well. ILWU Local 13, representing Longshoremen in Los Angeles and Long Beach, has voiced dissatisfaction with ocean carriers and terminal operators. Workers seek adequate compensation for the risks endured during the initial phase of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As negotiations fail, all eyes are on President Biden and the potential for his intervention to restore stability and resolve the labor dispute at West Coast ports. Despite the challenges, major California ports in Los Angeles and Oakland confirm that their terminals are functioning as usual. As more updates are received on the West Coast port situation, Noatum will continue to release accurate and adequate updates.
