Canadian ILWU Strike Seems Imminent

Noatum Logistics would like to update you on the recent developments regarding the Canadian International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) strike, which has been a topic of concern for many in our industry.

Despite the positive momentum earlier this week, a strike by the Canadian ILWU seems imminent. This unfortunate situation has arisen due to the failed negotiations between the Canadian ILWU and the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) to engage in meaningful negotiations on the core issues.

As a result, the Canadian ILWU has taken the position that they are left with no alternative but to escalate the situation. Therefore, at precisely (UTC-8:00 am) Pacific Standard Time on June 28, 2023, ILWU Canada took the decisive step by issuing a 72-hour strike notice to the BCMEA, setting the stage for imminent industrial action. Barring any last-minute breakthroughs, the ILWU workers are prepared to initiate their walkout at (UTC-8:00 am) Pacific Standard Time on July 1, 2023. The implications of this impending strike are significant, as it could disrupt operations and impact various sectors relying on efficient port activities.

Noatum Logistics will continue to monitor the situation closely and release updates as they unfold.
