The Super Typhoon Chanthu with winds of 260kph passed through Shanghai this past Monday. Although the storm now has been downgraded from a super storm to a strong one, its impact was significant, seriously affecting port and airport operations.

 

Flights and trains were cancelled in Shanghai; additionally the ports of Xiamen and Ningbo remained closed while authorities urged vessels to vacate the storm area.

 

Operations on Shanghai and Ningbo are slowly resuming, nevertheless, the consequences of this adverse weather have added to the already existing congestion in sea freight, and the storm moves now towards Taiwan.
