Holidays in China may add up to the current congestion

Holidays in China

The Noatum offices in China will be observing the Mid-Autumn Festival and will remain closed from September 19 to 21, for a total of 3 days. In addition, for the celebration of China’s National Day, from October 1 to 7, our China offices will be closed for a total of 7 days.

As you may already be aware, the Chanthu typhoon has been causing havoc in East Asia, and is now heading to continental China. These extreme weather conditions are affecting most flights in/out the country and Port terminals in Shanghai regions suspending containers import and export services until further notice, adding to the already existing congestion in maritime operations, which affects not only China, but also some neighboring countries like Taiwan.

New lockdwon on Xiamen Province

Due to new outbreaks of Covid-19 Delta variant, Xiamen province has updated its epidemic control measures and made them effective as of 15 September 2021.

  • Traders should note that warehouses will only accept deliveries by appointment.
  • In addition, no cargo will be accepted from Covid-19 medium risk areas in China.
  • Measures forcing truckers to isolate for 14 days upon departure from Xiamen are making it impossible to schedule deliveries in this area.
  • Overseas companies are forced to re-route shipments to the nearest ports, i.e. Shenzhen.

Gathering the existing delays on both air and sea freight, and the upcoming holidays observed in China, the situation is expected to remain critical and it is advised to schedule operations ahead to prevent further delays. However, the situation may worsen, and cancellations due to weather are still a possibility.
