The strategy
A sea shipment from China to Peru has a transit time of 45-50 days. The urgency to have the goods available so as not to interrupt our client’s logistics chain led the Noatum Logistics team to opt for air charter transport.
Company involved in the exploitation of mining sites in Cusco.
Our client needed to transport a total of 8 cable reels of 23 tons each from Shanghai. The challenge was to make the shipment in the shortest possible time with reasonable costs.
A sea shipment from China to Peru has a transit time of 45-50 days. The urgency to have the goods available so as not to interrupt our client’s logistics chain led the Noatum Logistics team to opt for air charter transport.
Due to the production process, the cable reels were delivered in pairs and, as soon as they left the factory, they had to be transported to Cusco. The best solution in terms of time and cost savings was to transport them via Air Part Charter on the Shanghai – Chicago – Miami – Lima route. As these were large packages, which required special handling, an extension of the primary customs area at Lima airport was requested. The cable reels had to be unloaded directly onto the special unit to avoid tampering and the cranes required for this operation are not standard airport equipment, so permission was required to unload in a specially designated area.
It took only 5 days to complete the operation and our customer received the equipment just when they needed it.
