On Saturday, April 13th, the container ship MSC Aries was seized by Iranian troops and diverted to Iran\u2019s territorial waters.\u00a0\u00a0 The seizure appears to be part of the continuing escalation of tensions throughout the Middle East.\u00a0 Cargo transit in the region was already disrupted due to recent attacks on merchant vessels in the Red Sea.\u00a0 This cargo seizure has the potential to further disrupt cargo transit and impact port operations in the region.<\/p>\n

The MSC Aries is a Portugal Flagged 14,300 TEU capacity container ship built in 2020.\u00a0 It had departed Khalifa, United Arab Emirates on April 12 and was expected to arrive in Nhava Sheva, India on April 15th.<\/p>\n
