As a result of the continued threat of violence in the Red Sea and limited restricted capacity in the Panama Canal, most carriers are choosing to change the vessel routings.\u00a0 More than one hundred container ships have now been diverted around the Cape of Good Hope at the southern tip of Africa. These and future diversions will add an additional 10-20 days transit time to the East Coast of the United States.\u00a0 With no clear solution to the instability, carriers will need to implement more capacity to keep up with demand and the adjusted port call schedules.\u00a0 This transition could cause additional disruptions including blank sailings, delays, and potential shortages of containers along with an increase in cost with the increase in transit times.<\/p>\n
