{"id":17596,"date":"2021-01-14T16:39:59","date_gmt":"2021-01-14T22:39:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.miq.com\/?p=16704"},"modified":"2021-01-14T16:39:59","modified_gmt":"2021-01-14T22:39:59","slug":"unprecendented-volumes-booking-delays-port-and-rail-congestion-update-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.noatumlogistics.com\/us\/unprecendented-volumes-booking-delays-port-and-rail-congestion-update-2\/","title":{"rendered":"UNPRECEDENTED VOLUMES, BOOKING DELAYS, PORT AND RAIL CONGESTION \u2013 UPDATE #2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The ongoing import surge continues to cause bottlenecks throughout the supply chain.\u00a0For the week ending January 8, there were 35 vessels at anchor awaiting berths at Los Angeles\/Long Beach. <!--more-->The terminals remain congested, and one carrier provided the below recap of the issues:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Terminals are working with limited labor and split shifts (related to COVID-19)<\/li>\n<li>The labor shortages have a domino effect, with negative impact on:\n<ul>\n<li>Trucker turn-around time<\/li>\n<li>Internal terminal transfers<\/li>\n<li>Number of daily appointments<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Lack of terminal space due to congestion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Delays are only increasing for rail operations at the terminals. Los Angeles, for example, is currently experiencing an average 16+ day delay.\u00a0Furthermore, the capacity limits in some markets due to the volume increase and driver shortages are causing additional backlogs and delays.\u00a0As a result of these rail delays, some carriers have limited their service to inland destinations and are prioritizing port to port bookings over bookings to inland U.S. points.\u00a0Prioritizing port to port bookings will allow the carriers to get containers turned as quickly as possible and returned back to origin.<\/p>\n<p>Noatum Logistics received the below metrics from one of our core carriers.
