On August 6, 2020, a Presidential Proclamation on Adjusting Imports of Aluminum Into the United States<\/a> was issued, which will result in a 10 percent Section 232 tariff on imports of non-alloyed unwrought aluminum from Canada.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

Canada is the largest source of non-alloyed unwrought aluminum into the United States, accounting for two-thirds of total imports of these articles from all countries in 2019 and approximately 75 percent of total imports in the first five months of 2020.\u00a0 This action is being taken against Canada because the surge in imports of these articles from Canada coincides with a decrease in imports of these articles from other countries and threatens to harm domestic aluminum products and capacity utilization.<\/p>\n

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) issued CSMS Message 43654621<\/a>, which provides\u00a0guidance for the additional duties under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 on imports of aluminum articles from Canada.\u00a0 The\u00a0additional 10 percent tariffs go into effect on August 16, 2020 and will apply specifically to non-alloyed unwrought aluminum classified under Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) number 7601.10 that are products of Canada.<\/p>\n

For all applicable entries, in addition to reporting the regular HTS# 7601.10, importers shall report the following HTS# for imported merchandise subject to the additional duty:<\/p>\n
