{"id":17467,"date":"2019-10-02T13:15:22","date_gmt":"2019-10-02T18:15:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.miq.com\/?p=15030"},"modified":"2019-10-02T13:15:22","modified_gmt":"2019-10-02T18:15:22","slug":"september-2019-manufacturing-ism-report-on-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.noatumlogistics.com\/us\/september-2019-manufacturing-ism-report-on-business\/","title":{"rendered":"September 2019 Manufacturing ISM\u00ae Report On Business\u00ae"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instituteforsupplymanagement.org\/about\/MediaRoom\/newsreleasedetail.cfm?ItemNumber=31150&amp;SSO=1\">Institute for Supply Management October 1, 2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Economic activity in the <strong>manufacturing sector<\/strong> contracted in September, and the <strong>overall economy<\/strong> grew for the 125th consecutive month, say the nation\u2019s supply executives in the latest <strong>Manufacturing ISM<\/strong><sup>\u00ae<\/sup><strong> <em>Report On Business<\/em><\/strong><em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/em><strong>.<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-15032 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.miq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/ISM-Report-September-2019-posted-02Oct2019.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"966\" height=\"676\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The report was issued today by Timothy R. Fiore, CPSM, C.P.M., Chair of the Institute for Supply Management<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> (ISM<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>) Manufacturing Business Survey Committee: \u201cThe September PMI<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> registered 47.8 percent, a decrease of 1.3 percentage points from the August reading of 49.1 percent. The New Orders Index registered 47.3 percent, an increase of 0.1 percentage point from the August reading of 47.2 percent. The Production Index registered 47.3 percent, a 2.2-percentage point decrease compared to the August reading of 49.5 percent. The Employment Index registered 46.3 percent, a decrease of 1.1 percentage points from the August reading of 47.4 percent. The Supplier Deliveries Index registered 51.1 percent, a 0.3-percentage point decrease from the August reading of 51.4 percent. The Inventories Index registered 46.9 percent, a decrease of 3 percentage points from the August reading of 49.9 percent. The Prices Index registered 49.7 percent, a 3.7-percentage point increase from the August reading of 46 percent. The New Export Orders Index registered 41 percent, a 2.3-percentage point decrease from the August reading of 43.3 percent. The Imports Index registered 48.1 percent, a 2.1-percentage point increase from the August reading of 46 percent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cComments from the panel reflect a continuing decrease in business confidence. September was the second consecutive month of PMI<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> contraction, at a faster rate compared to August. <strong>Demand<\/strong> contracted, with the New Orders Index contracting at August levels, the Customers\u2019 Inventories Index moving toward \u2018about right\u2019 territory and the Backlog of Orders Index contracting for the fifth straight month (and at a faster rate). The New Export Orders Index continued to contract strongly, a negative impact on the New Orders Index. <strong>Consumption<\/strong> (measured by the Production and Employment indexes) contracted at faster rates, again primarily driven by a lack of demand, contributing negative numbers (a combined 3.3-percentage point decrease) to the PMI<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> calculation. <strong>Inputs<\/strong> \u2014 expressed as supplier deliveries, inventories and imports \u2014 were again lower in September, due to inventory tightening for the fourth straight month. This resulted in a combined 3.3-percentage point decline in the Supplier Deliveries and Inventories indexes. Imports contraction slowed. Overall, inputs indicate (1) supply chains are meeting demand and (2) companies are continuing to closely match inventories to new orders. Prices decreased for the fourth consecutive month, but at a slower rate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGlobal trade remains the most significant issue, as demonstrated by the contraction in new export orders that began in July 2019. Overall, sentiment this month remains cautious regarding near-term growth,\u201d says Fiore.<\/p>\n<p>Of the 18 manufacturing industries, three reported growth in September: Miscellaneous Manufacturing; Food, Beverage &amp; Tobacco Products; and Chemical Products.
