{"id":17440,"date":"2019-05-29T17:24:03","date_gmt":"2019-05-29T22:24:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.miq.com\/?p=13789"},"modified":"2019-05-29T17:24:03","modified_gmt":"2019-05-29T22:24:03","slug":"port-of-vancouver-canada-labor-situation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.noatumlogistics.com\/us\/port-of-vancouver-canada-labor-situation\/","title":{"rendered":"Port of Vancouver, Canada Labor Situation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Canada posted on Sunday, May 26, 2019, they would take limited and targeted job action on Monday morning, May 27, 2019, at the Global Container Terminals, GCT Deltaport (Delta) and GCT Vanterm (Vancouver). The ILWU\u00a0did not move forward with a full-scale strike, however, an overtime ban at the GCT Deltaport and GCT Vanterm was initiated. The ILWU Canada President, Rob Ashton, advised all ports would remain open and no picket lines would go up as contract talks continue.\u00a0Please refer to the ILWU press release: <a href=\"https:\/\/protect-us.mimecast.com\/s\/FxR9CKrG5RU2m3K8uvw9pe?domain=ilwu.ca\"><strong>https:\/\/ilwu.ca\/ilwu-canada-press-release-may-26-2019\/<\/strong><\/a>. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Current Status:\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On May 28, 2019, the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) provided notice to the ILWU Canada of its intention to \u201clockout\u201d all ILWU employees covered by the BCMEA\/ILWU Canada collective agreement, effective 8:00 AM, May 30, 2019. Please refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.miq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/05-28-2019-Press-Release-PM-.pdf\">BCMEA news release<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>As of 11:30 PM, May 28, 2019, the BCMEA advised that further discussions with the mediator, Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS), and the Canadian Ministry of Labour resulted in the BCMEA and ILWU Canada agreeing to return to the bargaining table today (May 29) at noon in Vancouver. This is a positive development. Per the ILWU press release on Sunday, the union has been attempting through 18 months of negotiations to renew the industry collective agreement that expired March 31, 2018.<\/li>\n<li>The ILWU Canada posted an update May 29, 2019, on their website advising their members of the BCMEA lockout notice, but also noted the situation is very fluid and changing by the minute.
